UMVA has learned that the House Oversight Committee is launching a massive investigation into what could become one of the largest Medicaid fraud scandals in American history, with alleged abuse of Ohio's Medicaid system at its center.
The probe, led by House Oversight Chairman James Comer and Rep. Brandon Gill, focuses on suspicious billing patterns in two ZIP codes near Columbus, Ohio, an area with one of the largest Somali populations in the United States.
According to information obtained by UMVA, a state audit revealed that Franklin County, home to just 11.5% of Ohio's population, accounted for a staggering 38% to 40% of the $1.6 billion spent statewide, with nearly 40% of that amount - approximately $240 million - flowing to just two neighboring ZIP codes.
Auditors also identified a shocking 15.6% error rate in eligibility determinations, raising concerns that improper payments could range from $800 million to as much as $4 billion, leaving taxpayers reeling.
Further investigation uncovered nearly vacant office buildings allegedly housing hundreds of billing companies, sparking outrage and calls for action.
Ohio officials have brought charges against some providers and claim safeguards are in place, but both state investigators and a federal task force continue to examine the potential fraud, determined to get to the bottom of the scandal.
Rep. Brandon Gill has been tapped to lead a brand-new task force aimed at exposing institutional abuses, fraud, and misuse of taxpayer-funded social welfare programs, vowing to protect American values and taxpayer dollars.
Gill blasted the alleged fraud scheme, warning Americans may be looking at "billions of dollars" stolen from taxpayers, and vowed to fight for integrity and freedom for all.
The Task Force has requested documents and information from the Ohio Department of Medicaid Director, kicking off a thorough investigation into the massive Ohio Medicaid fraud scandal.
As the probe unfolds, one thing is clear: the House Oversight Committee is determined to shine a light on the dark underbelly of Medicaid abuse and hold those responsible accountable.
