US Army Deploys Black Hawk Helicopters to Rescue Over 200 Campers Stranded by Missouri Flooding.

US Army Deploys Black Hawk Helicopters to Rescue Over 200 Campers Stranded by Missouri Flooding.

A dramatic rescue operation was carried out in Missouri on Friday, as Army National Guard Black Hawk helicopters airlifted over 200 young campers and counselors to safety after severe flooding stranded them at a historic coed camp in Reynolds County. The camp, located in the Missouri Ozarks, was inundated with floodwaters after a powerful storm system dumped between 6 and 12 inches of rain. The rapid rise in floodwaters prompted an urgent call for military assistance. The campers, ranging in age from eight to 16, and their counselors were trapped as the waters surged.

Army National Guard Black Hawk helicopters flew into the flooded area and successfully evacuated 202 campers and staff members. The helicopters transported the rescued individuals to St. Louis, where they were safely reunited with their families. Video footage showed some of the children arriving at safety, highlighting the successful rescue operation. The evacuation was a testament to the swift response of the emergency services.

Camp officials expressed deep gratitude for the rescue efforts, thanking the National Guard, local emergency responders, and the community for their help in keeping the camp community safe. The dramatic airlift was part of a large coordinated emergency response across Missouri, which included at least 351 swiftwater rescues carried out by local first responders. The rescue efforts were undertaken after an executive order declared a state of emergency in the region.

The flooding has resulted in at least one death, and the National Weather Service has warned of potential additional flooding due to saturated soils. Forecasts indicate that another 2 to 4 inches of rainfall are expected through the weekend, prompting state officials to urge residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders if necessary. The emergency response efforts are ongoing, with officials working to mitigate the impact of the flooding and ensure public safety.
