A hidden danger lurks in nearly 100,000 steam cleaner attachments sold across Canada and the United States. Bissell has issued an urgent recall, warning consumers to immediately cease use of the affected parts due to a significant burn hazard.
The problem? These attachments can unexpectedly detach during operation, unleashing scalding hot water or steam directly onto users. Health Canada has issued a stark warning, emphasizing the immediate need to stop using the potentially dangerous components.
The recall encompasses a wide range of attachment models – 4155, 4155L, 4155W, 4155G, 4155D, 4155J, 4155Y, 4155P, 4171, 4171L, 4171W, 4171F, 4171B, 4171C, 4171D, 4171H, 4171J and 4171X – used with Bissell’s Steam Shot OmniReach and Steam Shot Omni Steam cleaners.
These products were available for purchase between October 2024 and March 2026, and the recall is being conducted in collaboration with Health Canada and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The risk is tragically real. In Canada, one burn injury has already been reported. Across the border in the U.S., the situation is more severe, with over 200 complaints and a staggering 160 reported burn injuries linked to the faulty attachments.
The sheer scale of the recall is substantial, with approximately 95,788 units affected in Canada and over 1.2 million in the United States. This widespread issue underscores the importance of immediate action.
If you own one of the identified attachment models, you are urged to contact Bissell to receive free replacement parts. This is a critical step to protect yourself and your family from potential harm.
Consumers can obtain further instructions and register for the recall by contacting Bissell directly. This proactive measure will ensure a swift and safe resolution to this serious safety concern.
