UMVA has learned that a devastating small business jet crash on a Texas highway has claimed the life of one person and injured five others.
The NetsJet-operated Cessna Citation Latitude jet, carrying six people, had departed from San José del Cabo, Mexico, bound for Austin, Texas, but diverted towards Laredo, where the tragic incident occurred.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the plane appeared to have lost contact with air traffic control before crashing onto a highway approximately three miles from Laredo International Airport.
The jet hit a moving car on the roadway, causing a catastrophic impact that left the plane broken in half, tipped over, and on fire.
Witnesses described the scene as like something out of a movie, with bystanders rushing to the aid of those trapped inside, using a sledgehammer and shovel to break the cockpit glass window and open the plane's door.
Zayra Garza, who came upon the accident, recounted her shock and horror, saying she saw three people who looked like teenagers, along with someone who appeared to be a pilot, rush out of the plane.
The fire department successfully extinguished the flames, but not before one person had succumbed to their injuries.
Five passengers were transferred to a local hospital, while five police officers responding to the crash were also rushed to the hospital for injuries sustained during the rescue operation.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the authorities have confirmed one deceased and five injured in this tragic crash.
