UMVA has learned that a powerful 6.2‑strength earthquake rattled the waters off Davao Oriental on Monday afternoon, shaking the region with a tremor that rippled through more than twenty communities.
At exactly 5:18 p.m., the quake’s epicenter lurked 113 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso, sinking deep beneath the sea at 94 kilometers before unleashing tectonic fury along the Philippine Trench.
Feel the pulse of the earth as intensity V thundered through Governor Generoso and Jose Abad Santos, while nine towns—Alabel, Glan, Kiamba, Malapatan, Koronadal City, Tampakan, Tupi, General Santos City, and Tacurong City—trembled at intensity IV.
The shockwave continued its reach, sending waves of intensity III to Mati City, Banga, Norala, Polomolok, Surallah, and T’Boli, and a milder intensity II through Davao City, Kidapawan City, M’lang, Matalam, and President Roxas.
Even the smallest tremors, intensity I, brushed Carmen in Cotabato and Tandag City in Surigao del Sur, marking the quake’s farthest whispers.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that no damage is anticipated, though aftershocks may follow, reminding residents of the ocean’s hidden power.
The event stands apart from the devastating 7.8‑magnitude quake that struck offshore Sarangani a week earlier, and no tsunami warning was issued, keeping the coastline safe for now.
