For years, Spotify has quietly powered countless workouts, its playlists the soundtrack to sweat sessions worldwide. Now, the streaming giant is taking a bolder step into the fitness realm, directly integrating workout videos into its platform.
The change isn’t subtle. A simple search for “fitness” unlocks a new world within the app, revealing a growing library of video content alongside the familiar playlists. It’s a surprisingly seamless addition, recognizing the evolving way people consume both music and exercise guidance.
Spotify Premium subscribers gain access to an even deeper experience: a curated selection of over 1,400 Peloton classes. While the iconic cycling sessions remain exclusive to Peloton’s higher tiers, strength, cardio, and restorative meditation classes are now readily available within the Spotify ecosystem.
Finding the right workout is simplified by an intelligent quiz. Users can specify their preferences – cardio, strength, or recovery – workout length, and experience level. The system then instantly generates a personalized selection, like a “HIIT Starter Pack” of ten-minute sessions, directly added to your library.
The Peloton integration mirrors the features of Peloton’s App One subscription, costing the same $12.99 per month as Spotify Premium. Expect studio-quality instruction for workouts adaptable to any living room, utilizing dumbbells or simply bodyweight. However, it’s important to note that access to live classes or metrics tracking isn’t included.
During a test run of a ten-minute HIIT class, the experience proved intuitive. Exercises were clearly segmented into “chapters” for easy navigation and previewing. A unique feature allows users to switch to audio-only mode, ideal for those who prefer to follow along by ear.
The presentation of these workouts utilizes a “video podcast” format, with episodes appearing in a scrollable list. While not a traditional video interface, it’s functional and offers a compelling value proposition: access to both Spotify’s music library and Peloton’s fitness content for a single monthly fee.
Beyond Peloton, Spotify is also partnering with independent fitness creators. Browsing the “Fitness Creators” section reveals a diverse range of video series, offering everything from quick warm-ups to full-length routines.
A five-minute run warm-up from Nourish Move Love demonstrated the versatility of the platform. The creator’s own progress bar overlayed on the video provided a clear visual guide, enhancing the experience. It’s a testament to the potential for innovation and personalized fitness within Spotify’s expanding ecosystem.
