A former employee of a Texas Chick-fil-A restaurant allegedly orchestrated a remarkably audacious scheme, exploiting a popular menu item to steal over $80,000. Keyshun Jones, previously terminated from his position in Grapevine, near Dallas, repeatedly returned to the restaurant, not to seek reinstatement, but to commit fraud.
The method was surprisingly simple, yet remarkably effective. Jones allegedly entered hundreds of fraudulent orders for mac and cheese – a customer favorite – and then immediately refunded the purchases directly to his own credit card. This pattern, repeated over time, amassed a staggering sum.
Red flags were raised when the restaurant began noticing a surge in suspicious refund activity. This prompted an internal investigation, quickly revealing the extent of the alleged deception: approximately 800 fake mac and cheese orders. The scheme had been ongoing for weeks before being discovered.
Security footage reportedly captured Jones at the register, meticulously entering the bogus orders and processing the illicit refunds. He was no longer an employee, having been fired a month prior, and operated without supervision during these alleged thefts.
The restaurant owner-operator promptly reported the incident to the Grapevine Police Department in November, initiating a formal investigation. An arrest warrant was issued in April, but Jones proved elusive, actively evading capture for over two weeks.
Authorities finally apprehended Jones on April 17th, with crucial assistance from the Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive Task Force and the Fort Worth Police Department. He now faces serious charges, including property theft, money laundering, and evading arrest.
A conviction could result in a prison sentence of up to ten years. The case highlights a brazen act of theft disguised within the routine operations of a fast-food restaurant.
