The digital world is insatiable, demanding ever-increasing power and storage. In response, STT GDC Philippines is dramatically expanding its Fairview data center, adding 4 megawatts of crucial capacity before the year’s end.
This expansion isn’t just about bigger numbers; it’s a strategic move to meet the explosive growth fueled by artificial intelligence and the relentless march of cloud computing. The facility will jump from 28 to 32 megawatts, a significant leap in its ability to serve a data-hungry world.
The design itself is forward-thinking. Built with a modular approach, the Fairview 1 facility isn’t just expanding now – it’s engineered to scale effortlessly, anticipating future surges in demand. The ultimate potential? A staggering 124 megawatts.
Building these digital fortresses isn’t quick work. Typically, constructing data center infrastructure requires at least two years, a timeline that can stretch further depending on the specific needs of clients and the rapid evolution of technology.
Already in the planning stages is the second phase of the Fairview expansion, poised to add another 32 megawatts. This next stage, with its deployment of additional data halls, is projected to take between 18 and 24 months to fully realize.
STT GDC Philippines is a powerful collaboration, uniting Globe Telecom, Ayala Corp., and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres. Currently, the company operates seven data centers across the Philippines, boasting a combined IT load nearing 150 megawatts.
The surge in demand isn’t localized; it’s a global phenomenon. Both international and regional players are driving the need for greater computing power and data storage, with AI workloads leading the charge. The appetite for data is growing exponentially.
Looking beyond the densely populated Luzon region, STT GDC Philippines is actively exploring expansion opportunities in the Visayas. The company anticipates significant growth in digital infrastructure needs throughout the country, not just within Metro Manila.
Currently, most facilities are concentrated in Luzon, with a single location in Davao. As other metropolitan areas develop and mature, the company intends to strategically invest in those emerging hubs.
Sustainability is also a key focus. A recent 10-year agreement with MPower, the retail electricity arm of Manila Electric Co., will provide renewable energy to power the Fairview 1 and Cavite 2 facilities, demonstrating a commitment to environmentally responsible operations.
