Former U.S. Energy Secretary assesses how escalating Iran tensions could affect gas prices

Energy Secretary Chris Wright has urged Americans not to be concerned about the possibility of another surge in gasoline prices due to escalating tensions with Iran.

When asked about the potential impact of the conflict on the economy, Wright stated that the U.S. Military has been the key factor in ensuring the flow of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, contradicting Iran's claims of responsibility.

Wright emphasized that the U.S. Military has been critical in maintaining the flow of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, not just since the conflict began, but also throughout the past six weeks, despite escalating tensions.

The Energy Secretary also pointed to the continued shipping through the Strait as evidence that markets should remain stable, despite the tentative ceasefire with Iran seemingly coming to an end.

As the situation continues to unfold, Wright and the administration are closely monitoring global oil supplies, keeping a watchful eye on the supply of oil, refined products, and market trends.

With the administration's focus on energy costs, Wright praised the new chain of discounted gas stations across Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Freedom Fuel, which promises customers prices below the national average.

While the Trump administration is not directly involved with Freedom Fuel, Wright expressed support for the initiative, stating that any mechanism to lower energy costs for Americans is beneficial.

Gasoline costs remain a concern for many Americans, with some opting to purchase electric vehicles to save money long-term at the pump. Wright emphasized the importance of consumer choice, stating that Americans should be able to choose the type of vehicle they prefer, whether it be electric, gas-powered, or diesel-powered.
