US Launches Further Military Strikes Against Iranian Targets

The US military conducted additional strikes against multiple targets in Iran on June 27, in response to continued Iranian aggression against commercial shipping. The strikes were carried out at the direction of the Commander in Chief, following a one-way attack drone launched by Iran that hit a Panama-flagged tanker near the Strait of Hormuz.

The tanker, M/T Kiku, was transiting the Strait of Hormuz with over two million barrels of crude oil at the time of the attack. Iranian forces had been given a chance to honor a ceasefire agreement, but elected not to when they launched the drone attack. In response, CENTCOM forces launched strikes targeting Iranian military surveillance infrastructure, communication systems, air defense sites, drone storage facilities, and minelayer capabilities.

Commercial vessel transits through the Strait of Hormuz continue, with the US military remaining vigilant and ready to respond to any further aggression. The US military had previously struck Iranian missile and drone storage locations on Friday, following an attack on a Singapore-flagged cargo ship that had exited the Strait of Hormuz amid a ceasefire agreement.

Prior to the latest strikes, President Trump had condemned Iran's attack as a "foolish violation of our ceasefire agreement." He stated that Iran had shot at least four one-way attack drones at ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with one drone hitting the upper deck of a large cargo carrying ship. The US military was able to knock down three other drones.

The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense, with the US military continuing to monitor the situation closely. The US has stated that it will remain vigilant and lethal in defending commercial shipping interests in the region.
