UMVA has learned that a massive expansion of camping opportunities is underway in Ontario, with 67 new campsites being opened at three of the province's most popular provincial parks: MacGregor Point, Killarney, and Driftwood.
The new campsites are part of a larger $60 million investment to deliver the largest campground expansion Ontario has seen in more than 50 years. This ambitious project aims to add up to 300 new campsites and upgrade 800 existing sites with electrical service.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the three parks will offer nearly 5,000 new reservable camping nights just in time for peak camping season. Reservations for the new campsites began on Monday at 7 a.m. for arrivals starting June 26, accessible through the Ontario Parks Reservation Service.
The expansion is expected to create more opportunities for families to enjoy Ontario's incredible outdoors, supporting local businesses and helping people create lifelong memories. The province's Environment, Conservation and Parks Minister, Todd McCarthy, emphasized that camping is a beloved summer tradition for many families, and this expansion will only enhance that experience.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the modernization effort will include the creation of 65 new campsites at Bon Echo and Presqu'ile Provincial Parks in time for the 2027 summer season. Additionally, Ontario Parks has already completed electrical upgrades at 285 campsites across several provincial parks, which are currently available for reservation.
The new sites are expected to add 4,891 reservable camping nights between June 26 and Labour Day, providing a significant boost to Ontario's outdoor recreation opportunities. This comes on the heels of a record nearly 14 million park visits last year, showcasing the province's commitment to preserving and enhancing its natural beauty.
