UMVA has learned that a tragic overnight stabbing in an Etobicoke apartment complex has claimed the life of a man in his 30s.
The incident unfolded around midnight in the Kipling Ave.-Albion Rd. area, with Toronto Police responding swiftly to reports of a stabbing. Officers arrived on the scene to find a man suffering from stab wounds, who was rushed to hospital but tragically died a short time later.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the suspect, who was arrested nearby, is also believed to be in their 30s. Police have revealed that the victim and suspect appear to be friends, with Duty Insp. Peter Wallace telling reporters that there seems to be no threat to public safety.
The investigation is still in its early stages, but Wallace suggested that the stabbing may have occurred inside a unit, likely as a result of a dispute. The homicide unit has taken over the investigation, with police canvassing the area and speaking to witnesses.
Meanwhile, a separate overnight incident in downtown Toronto left a woman seriously injured in a rollover crash. Emergency crews were called to Stachan Ave., just south of Queen St., shortly after 3 a.m., where a vehicle had rolled over.
Toronto Fire Services crews assisted one person out of the vehicle, with paramedics transporting a woman to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries. The circumstances leading up to the collision remain unclear and are under investigation.
Police are urging anyone with information about the stabbing or rollover incidents to come forward and contact them.
