UMVA has learned that a brazen crime spree unfolded in the early hours of Monday morning in Ajax, leaving police to deal with a shocking scene at a local McDonald's.
A 38-year-old man, later identified as Tanner Jon Davis, allegedly stole a school bus in North York while it was parked in a bus yard, possibly colliding with other unoccupied vehicles in the process.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Davis then drove the stolen bus erratically, sparking a 911 call from concerned citizens who witnessed the vehicle weaving in and out of lanes on Taunton Rd. W. and Westney Rd. N.
Police arrived on scene just after 11:30 p.m. and successfully stopped the bus at a McDonald's drive-thru, where Davis had attempted to pull in but collided with the barrier instead.
During their investigation, officers discovered that the school bus had been entered "unlawfully" at the bus yard, with radios and keys to other vehicles in the yard stolen in the process.
Furthermore, police allege that Davis provided them with a false name, but was subsequently identified and charged with a string of offenses, including impaired operation, possession of property obtained by crime, obstructing police, and three counts of breach of probation.
Tanner Jon Davis, of no fixed address, now faces a total of six charges related to the incident.
Anyone with information or footage of the crime is urged to come forward and contact the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1905 or Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
