The Environmental Management Bureau has announced its plan to assist refrigerant technicians in reducing the use of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) in refrigerators and air conditioners by 2030.
The announcement was made during a workshop in Quezon City to detail stage three of the Hydrochlorofluorocarbon Phase-out Management Plan.
HCFCs are considered potent greenhouse gases and contribute to the depletion of the ozone layer. They are currently being phased out under international agreements aimed at protecting the environment.
The government will provide support to the refrigeration and air-conditioning service industries, as well as manufacturers of solvent and firefighting materials, during the transition to alternative refrigerants.
The assistance will involve training refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians in the proper collection of HCFCs, enabling them to safely and efficiently manage the phase-out process.
