NIGHTMARE IN TORONTO: Daughter Accused in Grandma's Shocking Death!

NIGHTMARE IN TORONTO: Daughter Accused in Grandma's Shocking Death!

A wave of grief washed over Eva Samanos as harrowing images filled the courtroom – photographs revealing the devastating condition of her 96-year-old mother, Visiliki Atanasovski. The photos depicted extensive, open bedsores, exposing bone and hinting at prolonged suffering.

Samanos stands accused of manslaughter, criminal negligence causing death, and failing to provide the necessities of life in connection with her mother’s death on January 6th. She is representing herself in the judge-alone trial, maintaining a plea of not guilty.

The scene that greeted paramedics responding to Samanos’s 911 call was one of shocking disarray. Paramedic Timothy Driver described the home as resembling that of a hoarder, with floors and counters buried under mountains of debris and garbage reaching heights of three to four feet.

A pervasive stench of rotting food and human waste hung heavy in the air. Samanos explained to the court that a recent basement flood had forced her to move belongings upstairs, contributing to the overwhelming clutter.

Navigating the chaos, paramedics finally located Atanasovski, naked and lying on the living room floor, her head and shoulders propped against a sofa. Samanos reportedly told them her mother, who suffered from dementia, had been there for three days.

Driver observed a disturbing lack of emotional response from the daughter, describing her demeanor as “nonchalant.” The elderly woman was immersed in urine and feces, and critically ill. A pulse was difficult to detect, and her heartbeat was erratic.

The true extent of Atanasovski’s suffering became horrifyingly clear when paramedics carefully turned her to place her on a stretcher. They discovered profound tissue breakdown, the skin having deteriorated to the bone across her back and tailbone.

A police officer who later photographed the injuries testified to the overwhelming smell of “rotting flesh” and “decomposition.” The conditions were profoundly disturbing, suggesting a long period of neglect.

Driver questioned Samanos about why she hadn’t sought help sooner. She had apparently asked a neighbor for assistance lifting her mother, but the neighbor, uncomfortable with the situation, advised her to call 911. Samanos’s response to why she delayed the call remains unclear.

Upon learning Samanos was her mother’s primary caregiver, Driver immediately suspected elder abuse and reported his concerns to the Toronto Police. Samanos was subsequently arrested at Michael Garron Hospital, where Atanasovski had been rushed, and initially charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

The charges were elevated to manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death following Atanasovski’s passing the day after her admission. The trial is ongoing, with the courtroom bracing for further revelations about the tragic circumstances surrounding Visiliki Atanasovski’s final days.
