A new Gallup Poll reveals a significant shift in public opinion on the transgender movement, with moral acceptance of 'changing one's gender' plummeting to just 38% from 46% in 2021.
The decline in support is reflective of a broader backlash against the LGBTQ+ agenda, with Americans increasingly rejecting the notion that biological males should be allowed to compete in women's sports and invade women's locker rooms.
The backlash is particularly evident in Major League Baseball, where players across the league have refused to wear rainbow jerseys and patches, sparking warnings from MLB and investigations into religious discrimination.
Several lawmakers have expressed their support for the athletes, with Rep. Rich McCormick, R-GA, stating that the trans community has lost support because it 'infringes on women's rights' and 'enforces their own desires' at the expense of women's rights.
Rep. Tim Burchett, R-TN, took a more direct approach, calling transgender women 'mentally ill men' and stating that the trans community is 'pushing the envelope' and becoming increasingly obnoxious.
The debate has also centered around the issue of children's rights, with President Trump's executive orders in 2025 cutting off federal funding for puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries for minors.
Around two dozen states have since banned these procedures, and dozens of hospitals have paused or stopped youth transitions under pressure.
The issue of women's sports has also come to the forefront, with biological males dominating women's competitions and stealing scholarships, records, and safety from actual females.
Despite the growing opposition, some lawmakers remain committed to the LGBTQ+ agenda, with Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-NY, blaming 'Donald Trump' and 'far-right radicalization' for the backlash.
Sen. John Fetterman, however, took a more nuanced approach, stating that MLB players should have the choice to wear LGBTQ-themed patches, while still proudly flying the rainbow flag outside his office.
The tide of public opinion is turning, and it remains to be seen whether Democrats will admit to the shift or continue to resist the growing backlash against the transgender movement.
