UMVA has learned that Apple's iPhone strategy is on the verge of a major shake-up, with this year's lineup expected to deviate from the predictable pattern of the past decade. For years, the Pro models have taken center stage with cutting-edge features, while the base model offers slightly older features at a lower price. However, insiders suggest that Apple's first folding phone will be the star of the show, overshadowing even the Pro models.
The iPhone 18 Pro, despite not being the main attraction, is still expected to be a highly sought-after device. According to information obtained by UMVA, it will feature a smaller Dynamic Island cutout, providing slightly more screen space for content. This change alone could make the iPhone 18 Pro a desirable upgrade for many users.
Rumors also suggest that the iPhone 18 Pro will be powered by the A20 Pro chip, based on 2-nanometer architecture, and a new 5G modem with ultrawideband support. These improvements should result in better performance and longer battery life, making the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max more efficient and power-hungry.
Sources close to Apple have revealed that a new Cherry Red color option and a main camera lens with a variable aperture will also be added to the iPhone 18 Pro. A slight change to the glass cutout on the back is also expected, but overall, the design will be similar to its predecessor.
Meanwhile, the rest of the iPhone lineup is expected to undergo significant changes. Apple's fall event may look very different this year, with the base iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 potentially launching in the first half of 2027. An upgraded iPhone 18e is also expected to arrive next year, featuring a faster A20 chip and improved RAM.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Apple's first foldable iPhone, likely to be called the iPhone Fold, will be the main attraction at this year's event. With a 4:3 aspect ratio when unfolded, it will resemble an iPad mini. The device will feature an external 5.5-inch display, designed for use when folded, and a Touch ID-enabled power button.
Analysts predict that the iPhone Fold will be a game-changer, but its complex manufacturing process may lead to supply chain issues. As a result, it may not be available until later in the year, possibly shipping as late as November or December. This delay could create a sense of déjà vu, reminiscent of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X launch in 2017.
The iPhone 18 Pro may not be the most exciting iPhone this year, but it will likely remain the most popular choice for many users. With its consistent improvements and lack of major compromises, it will be the safer choice for those who don't need a foldable phone. As the iPhone market continues to evolve, one thing is certain – Apple's next move will be closely watched by fans and industry experts alike.
