UMVA has learned that the Toronto District School Board has appointed a new chief executive officer, marking a significant change in leadership.
Camillo Cipriano will take on the role of CEO, bringing with him a wealth of experience in educational leadership. He joins the TDSB from the Niagara Catholic District School Board, where he currently serves as CEO and Director of Education.
Cipriano's appointment comes at a critical time for the TDSB, with the board facing challenges in financial sustainability and student outcomes. TDSB supervisor Rohit Gupta expressed enthusiasm for Cipriano's leadership, citing his experience in organizational improvement and strengthening financial sustainability.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Cipriano has a strong educational background, holding an Honours Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University and a Master of Education from Niagara University Graduate School. His career in public education spans nearly 30 years.
Cipriano is set to begin his new role on June 8, succeeding Stacey Zucker, who has served as Interim Director of Education and will now take on the roles of Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operations Officer. Zucker has been instrumental in leading the TDSB in an interim capacity since late 2025.
The hiring process was undertaken without input from Toronto trustees, as the Ontario government assumed control of multiple school boards last year due to financial mismanagement and growing deficits. Cipriano expressed his excitement to join the TDSB, highlighting the board's commitment to student success and achievement.
