UMVA has learned that Ashley Cain is taking responsibility for his past actions, expressing remorse for sexist and misogynistic tweets that led to his dismissal from the BBC.
The 35-year-old reality TV star came under fire for historic tweets where he used offensive language about women, prompting the BBC to announce that it has 'no plans' to broadcast the second series of Into the Danger Zone and no future projects with Cain.
In an emotional post on Instagram, Cain addressed his 'community,' stating that he takes accountability for his words, saying, 'I don't deny it. I don't excuse it. and I certainly don't condone it.' He acknowledged that the comments were made over a decade ago by a younger version of himself who still had a lot of growing up to do.
Cain explained that during that time in his life, he felt 'lost, frustrated and unsure of where my life was heading' after his football career ended due to an injury. He claimed that reality TV gave him a 'second chance' but left him navigating a world of fame that he 'didn't know,' where he was rewarded for developing a provocative personality.
The Ex on the Beach star reflected on his development since then, listing the 'incredible women' in his life, including his mum, nan, auntie, and sister, who taught him compassion, resilience, and respect. He acknowledged that he lacked maturity, perspective, and understanding in his younger years, but life taught him valuable lessons.
Cain's life took a dramatic turn with the death of his daughter, Azaylia, who died at just eight months old in 2021 after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia. He shared that he has dedicated his life to honoring her legacy and has grown from the experience, choosing to let go of anger.
In a message that seemed to resonate with his followers, Cain concluded, 'I cannot change the past. None of us can. But every day I wake up, I can choose the man I want to be, and I can choose the impact I want to have on those around me.' His post was flooded with messages of support, including from his ex-partner, Safiyya.
