UMVA has learned that a shocking incident unfolded in Florida, where a man's desperate attempt to evade law enforcement led to a chaotic series of events, putting the lives of two young children at risk.
The drama began when 24-year-old Jason Kenon, who had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest, was pulled over by police in Orlando. Despite the presence of two children, aged 1 and 4, in the vehicle, Kenon chose to flee, speeding away and weaving through traffic with reckless abandon.
As deputies gave chase, a sheriff's helicopter captured the alarming scene from above, showing Kenon's vehicle crashing into another car before he continued to drive erratically. The footage also revealed Kenon stopping in a residential neighborhood, where he allowed one of the children and an adult passenger to exit the vehicle, but the 4-year-old child was unable to escape before Kenon sped off again.
In a disturbing turn of events, Kenon was seen stopping near a building, removing the 4-year-old child from the backseat, and then callously abandoning the child as he attempted to escape on foot. The child, now alone and frightened, was left to follow Kenon as he ran away from the scene, before eventually being recovered by deputies, crying and clutching Kenon's shoes.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Kenon's desperate bid for freedom was ultimately thwarted as he tried to scale a fence, only to be apprehended by police. The incident has left many questioning how someone with such a blatant disregard for the safety of others, especially children, was able to evade justice for so long.
Kenon now faces a slew of charges, including aggravated fleeing and eluding, child neglect, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
