UMVA has learned that a torrential downpour on Saturday forced the rescheduling of Bruno Mars' highly anticipated concert at Rogers Stadium in Toronto.
The singer's first of five shows, initially set to kick off at 8:45 p.m., was postponed to May 31 by concert promoter Live Nation due to inclement weather. The announcement was made a mere seven hours before showtime, leaving fans scrambling for new plans.
Live Nation Canada prioritized the safety of guests, artists, crew, and staff, stating that "the safety of our guests, artists, crew and staff remains our top priority." The company assured that all previously purchased tickets would be honored for the new date, with further information to be communicated directly to ticket holders.
Bruno Mars himself took to social media to express his disappointment and promise to make it up to his fans. "I never want this but I need everyone to be safe in order to have a good time," he wrote. "I'll make it up to you Toronto on the 31st. I promise! love, Rice Man."
A special weather statement had been issued for Toronto earlier that day, warning of heavy rain with estimates of 30 to 50 millimeters possible. Environment Canada attributed the downpour to a low-pressure system bringing heavy rain to parts of southern Ontario.
Despite the setback, Mars' remaining scheduled shows at Rogers Stadium are set to proceed as planned, with fans eagerly anticipating hits like "24K Magic," "Marry You," and "Uptown Funk." The concerts will also feature a Silk Sonic portion, showcasing hits from Mars' collaboration with Anderson .Paak.
The rescheduling of Saturday's show marks a minor hiccup in the second summer season at Rogers Stadium, which is set to host 20 shows in total. Anderson .Paak, one of the openers on Mars' current tour, will still perform as scheduled.
