Ronaldinho goes viral after Brazilian soccer legend grabs some shawarma in Mississauga
Brazilian former football player Ronaldinho runs with the ball during a legends exhibition match against Mexico last month.

Even Brazilian soccer legends can’t resist grabbing a good shawarma when they’re in the GTA.

Ronaldinho, who is in Toronto this week to take part in a Living Legends Match at BMO Field on Friday night, was spotted in Mississauga on Thursday evening getting a bite to eat.

The two-time FIFA player of the year and one-time World Cup winner was filmed pulling up to Sumaq Shawarma in Ridgeway Plaza, in the Eglinton Ave. W. and Ninth Line area.

A large crowd was on hand to greet him, with the Brazilian graciously meeting his fans with handshakes a few hugs.

In a video posted on TikTok by torontofoodguide , Ronaldinho is seen chowing down on the popular Middle Eastern street food and giving his show of approval.

“Very good,” the 46-year-old could be heard saying between bites.

What did Ronaldinho say about Toronto?

Earlier in the day, Ronaldinho spoke to the media at Lamport Stadium ahead the Living Legends Match, which will see a Brazilian squad face off against a team made up of former Toronto FC stars.

“It’s a pleasure to be here,” Ronaldinho told reporters . “It will be good to play with the Brazilian jersey again and to play in the stadium where the World Cup is going to be held.”

Ronaldinho said that this will be the first time that he has played in Toronto and that he has heard a lot about the city’s “passion” for the game.

“I’ve played in many cities around the world, but this will be my first time playing in Toronto,” Ronaldhino said.

“I’ve heard a lot about the passion for football here, especially with the World Cup coming soon, so I’m excited to experience the energy of the fans and to share a special night of football with them.”

Friday’s game will see Ronaldhino joined on the field by teammates including Adriano, Emerson and Maicon while Toronto FC alumni will include the likes of Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore, Dwayne De Rosario and Julian de Guzman.

How good was Ronaldinho?

Ronaldinho is considered one of the most-skilled players to ever hit the pitch. His professional playing career began in his native Brazil with Gremio in 1998 before making the move overseas to Paris Saint-Germain in 2001.

He rose to superstar with Barcelona, scoring 94 goals in 207 total games over five seasons before moving to AC Milan.

He would return to Brazil in 2011 and play five more years – including a brief stint in Mexico — before retiring.
