DECEMBER'S ELECTIONS WILL SHOCK YOU.

DECEMBER'S ELECTIONS WILL SHOCK YOU.

May marks the resurgence of the 2026 primary season, a critical juncture poised to define the battles for control of Congress. Across a dozen states, nomination contests will unfold, their outcomes potentially sealing the fate of Republican majorities in both the Senate and the House. The stakes are immense, the energy palpable.

The month begins with pivotal races in Indiana and Ohio, quickly followed by Nebraska and West Virginia. Louisiana’s contest adds further momentum, culminating in a flurry of primaries across Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Oregon, and Pennsylvania. Texas will close out the month with crucial runoff showdowns, completing a whirlwind of political maneuvering.

Perhaps the most compelling narrative woven through these primaries is the testing of Donald Trump’s enduring influence over the Republican party. His endorsements, once considered guarantees of victory, will now face their most significant challenges yet, revealing the true depth of his sway.

Indiana presents the first major test. Months ago, state Senate Republicans defied Trump’s wishes, rejecting a congressional redistricting plan that would have solidified Republican dominance. Now, the president has actively campaigned against eight state senators who opposed him, igniting a fierce intra-party battle.

Millions of dollars are being poured into these contests, fueled by groups like Turning Point USA and the Club for Growth. This isn’t simply about redistricting; it’s a clash between established conservatives and the more fervent “MAGA” wing, a struggle for the very soul of the GOP.

In neighboring Ohio, the landscape is markedly different. Vivek Ramaswamy, a rising star who captivated audiences during his presidential bid, is poised to secure the Republican gubernatorial nomination with Trump’s backing. He will face Dr. Amy Acton, a respected public health official, in the general election.

The Ohio Senate race also appears largely settled, with appointed Republican Senator Jon Husted unchallenged in the primary. He’ll contend with former Senator Sherrod Brown, a Democratic stalwart, in a race expected to be fiercely competitive despite the state’s recent shift towards the right.

Louisiana’s Senate primary features a challenge to Senator Bill Cassidy from Representative Julia Letlow, who has received Trump’s endorsement. Cassidy’s past vote to convict Trump after the January 6th attack adds another layer of complexity to this contest, highlighting the ongoing divisions within the party.

Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District is witnessing a similar showdown. Representative Thomas Massie, a frequent critic of Trump, faces a Trump-backed challenger, Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL. The president’s allies are heavily invested in ousting Massie, demonstrating the lengths to which they’ll go to enforce loyalty.

Georgia’s gubernatorial race is shaping up to be a chaotic free-for-all, with Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones battling healthcare executive Rick Jackson for the Republican nomination. The contest is fueled by millions of dollars and intense personal animosity, promising a bruising primary battle.

Republicans are keenly focused on flipping Georgia’s Senate seat, currently held by Democrat Jon Ossoff. However, a contentious primary between multiple Republican contenders, including Representatives Mike Collins and Buddy Carter, threatens to weaken the party’s chances in the general election.

In Texas, a runoff election will determine the Republican nominee for Senate. Longtime Senator John Cornyn is facing a formidable challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton, a staunch Trump supporter. The outcome of this race could significantly impact the GOP’s ability to retain control of the Senate.

Democrats are watching the Texas race with particular interest, believing that Paxton’s nomination would make the seat more vulnerable. The stakes are high, and the outcome could very well determine which party controls the Senate after the 2026 elections.

These primaries aren’t merely about individual candidates; they represent a broader reckoning within the Republican party. The coming weeks will reveal whether Trump’s influence remains absolute, or if a new generation of leaders is poised to emerge, reshaping the future of the GOP.
