Energy Department Re-Initiates Auction for Waste-to-Energy Projects

Energy Department Re-Initiates Auction for Waste-to-Energy Projects

The Department of Energy has resumed activities to mount the special green energy auction round for waste-to-energy projects after a brief suspension to revise the terms of the auction.

In a statement, the department lifted the suspension imposed last month, paving the way for the resumption of all auction-related activities.

To facilitate greater participation in the auction, the department issued the second supplemental terms of reference, which introduced key revisions such as increasing the installation target from 230 megawatts to 400 megawatts and extending the delivery commencement to December 31, 2029.

The revised terms also gave stakeholders more time to prepare and comply with auction requirements, updating the registration, bidding, evaluation, and award timelines.

The updated policy measures aim to encourage wider participation and accelerate investments in waste-to-energy facilities, consistent with the government's objectives of strengthening energy security, promoting renewable energy development, and advancing sustainable waste management solutions.

The auction proper is scheduled on October 13, with the awarding of winning bidders on December 16.

The department has encouraged interested renewable energy developers to review the second supplemental terms of reference, as well as its annexes and the updated timetable.

These measures are expected to facilitate greater participation in the auction process and support the development of pioneer waste-to-energy projects that will contribute to a cleaner, more reliable, and sustainable energy future.
