UMVA has learned that Liverpool's pursuit of Hertha BSC's highly sought-after young talent, Kennet Eichhorn, has ended in disappointment.
The 16-year-old sensation had been coveted by the Reds, who made what was described as the most attractive offer, both financially and in terms of club stature. However, Eichhorn has decided against a move to England, despite Liverpool's best efforts to convince him.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the key issue was Eichhorn's preference to continue his development in Germany rather than move to England at this stage. At 16, regular development, comfort, and a familiar football environment can matter more than money or the size of the club.
Liverpool had worked hard behind the scenes to convince Eichhorn, with intensive talks and a clear development plan on the table. However, the youngster's desire to stay in Germany has left the Reds frustrated.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Liverpool's plan had involved signing Eichhorn now and loaning him out, possibly to Bayer Leverkusen, due to post-Brexit rules that would have prevented him from moving to England before turning 18. But with Liverpool out of the picture, Bayer Leverkusen are now pushing hard for a permanent deal, while RB Leipzig remain hopeful.
The news is a blow to Liverpool, but it's a complicated deal that was always going to be tough to crack. Eichhorn choosing development over money is actually a sensible decision, and Liverpool should take it as a lesson: elite young players need more than a big name to win them over.
