PREGNANT WIFE MURDERED: Fugitive Husband on the RUN in ITALY!

PREGNANT WIFE MURDERED: Fugitive Husband on the RUN in ITALY!

A chilling escape unfolded as Lee Mongerson Gilley, accused of a horrific double murder, severed his ankle monitor and vanished from Texas. The 39-year-old is charged with the deaths of his pregnant wife, Christa Bauer Gilley, and their unborn child – a tragedy that occurred in Houston in 2024.

Instead of facing a scheduled court appearance, Gilley embarked on a desperate flight, first to Canada, then onward to Italy. He now claims asylum, telling Italian authorities he fears the death penalty and insists he’s been wrongfully accused.

His attorney argues this isn’t an admission of guilt, but a reaction born of fear. “I’m concerned that the prosecution will try to say that it’s evidence of consciousness of guilt that he’s running from it, but I think he’s just scared,” the lawyer stated, attempting to frame the escape as a desperate act of self-preservation.

The alarm was raised Friday when the ankle monitor registered tampering. Gilley’s trial was looming, set to begin later this month, but his actions have thrown the legal proceedings into turmoil and initiated an international pursuit.

Italian authorities now hold Gilley in custody, but his return to Texas isn’t simple. The state must first assure Italy he won’t face capital punishment – a sentence prosecutors currently say they aren’t seeking.

The accusations against Gilley are deeply disturbing. Charging documents detail how he allegedly applied pressure to Christa’s neck and upper back on October 7th, 2024, ending her life and that of her full-term baby.

Initially, Gilley claimed Christa, nine months pregnant, had succumbed to an overdose and that he’d attempted CPR. However, a medical examiner’s investigation revealed evidence of strangulation, ruling her death a homicide.

After his arrest, Gilley reportedly conceded his wife hadn’t struggled with drugs or suicidal thoughts, admitting the couple had been embroiled in an argument before her death. The narrative he initially presented crumbled under forensic scrutiny.

Even while released on bond, authorities allege Gilley wasn’t idle. He and a woman with whom he’d had an affair in 2023 reportedly plotted an escape to Mexico and beyond.

Prosecutors claim Gilley actively sought a false identity, even inquiring about acquiring Mexican identification. He allegedly detailed a plan to remove his GPS monitor and enter into a sham marriage to secure a new life under a different name.

Now, a complex extradition process is underway, aiming to bring Gilley back to the United States to face the charges that await him. The case continues to unfold, a stark reminder of tragedy and a desperate attempt to evade justice.
