Amazon Prime Releases Entire Season of Acclaimed but Overlooked Dark Drama Starring George Clooney

Amazon Prime Video has recently added a 2019 mini-series to its roster of TV shows, which has been praised by fans and critics alike. The dark satire, directed in part by George Clooney, who also stars, is based on Joseph Heller's 1961 novel of the same name.

The series follows the story of Captain John Yossarian, a US Air Force bombardier in World War II, played by Christopher Abbott. Yossarian finds himself in an impossible situation as he tries to escape the fighting, with the mentally unwell being dismissed from military service. However, by applying to be excused due to mental health issues, individuals are deemed fit for missions, creating a Catch-22 situation.

The mini-series received high praise from critics, with a 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans on the internet have also been singing its praises, with one user on Reddit calling it "criminally neglected" and another describing it as "amazing".

Clooney, who executive produced the show, admitted that it had been some time since his last series regular role. The mini-series boasts a 7.7/10 star rating on IMDb and was nominated for two Emmys for its special visual effects and sound editing.

The show's logline reads: "Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian, a US Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service."

Originally broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK, the Hulu production is not loved by all. Some viewers have found the series to be "wooden and boring", while others have praised its dark comedy and satire. Catch-22 is now available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
