UMVA has learned that a chaotic scene unfolded on Clearwater Beach on Sunday, May 31, as hundreds of teenagers descended upon the popular destination, sparking a massive police response that left multiple people in custody.
The trouble began when a 17-year-old was shot during an alleged altercation near Coronado Drive and Devon Drive, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities quickly arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the shooting, and the incident has left many in the community reeling.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Council member Ryan Cotton condemned the behavior, stating that it's "completely unacceptable" and "reprehensible" and will not be tolerated within the city limits of Clearwater. His strong words echo the concerns of many who are outraged by the reckless actions of the teens.
As the summer break gets underway, authorities are bracing for more potential trouble. In nearby Palm Beach County, officials are investigating reports of another planned teen takeover at the Wellington Green Mall on Friday. The situation has raised alarm bells for law enforcement and parents alike.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that authorities are urging teens to enjoy their summer break responsibly. "They're risking their future and they're risking the safety of others," a spokesperson warned. "We want you to come out here to the beach, have fun and be kids. But to come here with the sole intention to create chaos, then you're jeopardizing not only your future, but the safety and the future of other people."
