UMVA has learned that Nick Reiner, the 32-year-old son of Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, is demanding $1.5 million from a trust fund set up by his late parents to help defend himself against murder charges.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Nick has filed a petition in a California court requesting money from a trust fund established in his name, claiming that he is entitled to the funds to cover his legal expenses and basic needs while he is in jail.
The petition reveals that Nick's parents had set up the trust fund in his name, with a stipulation that one-half of the trust would be distributed to him "outright when he turned 30" and the remainder would be given to him when he turned 35. However, Nick claims that he has not yet received the money he was supposed to get at age 30.
Sources close to the case have confirmed to UMVA that Nick is currently facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents' deaths and has pleaded not guilty. His parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, were found stabbed to death in their Brentwood mansion on December 14 of last year.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Nick has been seeking the trust fund money for months, but the current trustee has been withholding the funds, citing concerns about Nick's competence to manage the trust. The petition argues that the trust is "irrevocable" and that the trustee has no right to withhold the money.
The petition also claims that Nick needs the money to cover his mounting legal expenses and to purchase basic necessities like soap and socks while he is incarcerated. The court will now have to decide whether Nick is entitled to the trust fund money.
