In a move widely interpreted as a pointed jab, the governor countered with a digitally altered image of a California driver’s license. His own portrait replaced the standard photograph, a clear attempt to mirror the forthcoming passport design and draw a comparison.
The White House swiftly dismissed the governor’s actions, asserting the former president’s focus remains on national issues. A spokesperson characterized criticism of celebrating American history as a symptom of “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” a phrase frequently used to discredit opponents.
This exchange isn’t an isolated incident. Over the past year, the governor has increasingly adopted rhetorical strategies reminiscent of his predecessor, mirroring a similar tone and self-promotional style while simultaneously criticizing policies.
The situation escalated further with the circulation of another provocative image from the governor’s office. This mock passport paired the former president’s likeness with that of the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, adding a layer of controversy to the ongoing dispute.
Direct insults were also exchanged, with the governor publicly labeling the former president a “loser” – a term the former president himself often used against those critical of him. The increasingly heated rhetoric drew significant attention.
Adding to the tension, an incident occurred nearby involving a Secret Service agent who was allegedly shot by a gunman. The suspect was subsequently apprehended, further amplifying the already charged atmosphere surrounding the political exchange.
