The hand dryer in the men's toilet at the Crown and Treaty pub in west London has been a contentious issue since Count Binface, a sentient wheelie bin, ran against Boris Johnson in the Uxbridge constituency in 2019.
Count Binface, who is now running against Nigel Farage in the Clacton by-election, had promised to move the hand dryer to a more convenient place.
Despite this, the hand dryer remains in its original position, nestled between the urinal and the sink, causing discomfort for users.
In an interview, one male patron described the hand dryer's placement as "awkward." He explained that using the urinal on the far right side triggers the hand dryer, and that using the hand dryer itself is tricky while someone is using the urinal.
The pub's owners, Guna and Anu Sachdeva, took over in October and initially struggled to understand why the hand dryer was causing such a stir.
However, after receiving prank calls and comments online, and two men cycling from Ealing to see it, they realized the extent of the issue.
Guna revealed that the pub has received a number of Google reviews in the last two days, with one reviewer simply requesting that the hand dryer be relocated to a more sensible position.
Looking around the men's toilet, it is not immediately clear where the hand dryer should be placed, with limited space and a small wall behind the entrance door.
Guna is open to moving the hand dryer if Count Binface is willing to discuss the matter further, suggesting a possible compromise.
The Crown and Treaty pub, which dates back to the time of King Charles I, remains a historical landmark in west London, and its hand dryer has become an unlikely point of contention.
