COLLEGE UNDER SIEGE: DOJ Investigates Radical Fundraiser!

COLLEGE UNDER SIEGE: DOJ Investigates Radical Fundraiser!

A federal investigation into antisemitism has been launched at the University of Washington, triggered by a student group’s planned fundraiser. The group, known as SUPER UW, intended to raise money for a “Lebanese resistance” organization, prompting swift action from the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division.

Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon publicly announced the investigation, citing a history of violent antisemitic activity linked to the student group. The fundraiser announcement ignited immediate concern, drawing attention to SUPER UW’s past actions on campus and raising questions about the university’s response to escalating tensions.

University officials swiftly moved to distance themselves from the organization, emphasizing that SUPER UW is no longer officially recognized by the school. The event is taking place off campus, a consequence of earlier actions that led to the university severing ties with the group.

The break between the university and SUPER UW – Students United for Palestinian Equality and Return – occurred in May after protesters occupied a campus building. This occupation resulted in property damage, multiple arrests, and a strong condemnation from University President Ana Mari Cauce, who labeled it an “illegal building occupation.”

The university even attempted to prevent the group from using the University of Washington’s name on social media platforms, specifically requesting Facebook’s intervention. However, that request has, so far, been denied, allowing the group to continue associating itself with the institution online.

This isn’t the first time the University of Washington has faced scrutiny over allegations of antisemitism. The school underwent a review during the Trump administration following anti-Israel protests last May – the same protests that ultimately led to SUPER UW’s expulsion from campus activities.

Now, the university is reportedly cooperating fully with the DOJ’s “compliance review,” signaling a serious commitment to addressing the concerns raised. The investigation promises a thorough examination of the university’s handling of antisemitism and its response to the actions of student groups.
