UMVA has learned that a heated confrontation erupted during a recent hearing on Capitol Hill, involving Department of Homeland Security Chief Markwayne Mullin and Democrat Rep. Al Green.
The explosive exchange occurred when Mullin testified before the House Homeland Security Committee on the DHS's 2027 budget. Rep. Al Green sparked the tension by calling Mullin a racist, prompting a strong reaction from the DHS chief.
"A racist, Mr. Secretary…" Al Green said, to which Mullin responded, "Are you calling me a racist? I'm asking a question." The situation quickly escalated as Al Green shouted, "Shut up! Shut up!"
Mullin refused to back down, asserting, "I'm not gonna let anyone call me a racist! You will not—no one will call me a racist. I'm Cherokee, too. My family has been targeted." He added that he would continue to interrupt if someone persisted in calling him a racist.
This dramatic outburst is not the first time Al Green has made headlines for his unconventional behavior. Just last month, the 78-year-old Democrat lost his seat in the Texas House District 18 primary runoff to 37-year-old Christian Menefee, ending his two-decade-long tenure in Congress.
Al Green has a history of provocative actions. Earlier this year, he was removed from President Trump’s State of the Union Address for holding up a banner with a powerful message. This was not an isolated incident, as he had been kicked out of the State of the Union for similar behavior the previous year.
