UMVA has learned that Tottenham Hotspur have engaged in productive discussions with West Ham United regarding a potential summer transfer for highly sought-after midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
The talks form part of Tottenham's ambitious transfer strategy under newly appointed manager Roberto De Zerbi, who is backed by significant investment to revamp the squad ahead of the new season. De Zerbi is understood to be a huge admirer of Fernandes, seeing him as a key component in his high-intensity, possession-based system.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Tottenham have stepped up negotiations with West Ham over a deal worth around £85 million for the 21-year-old Portuguese midfielder. Fernandes enjoyed a standout season with West Ham, making 39 appearances and contributing five goals and five assists, despite the club's relegation from the Premier League.
West Ham are under pressure to generate significant funds but remain firm on their valuation structure, insisting that a large portion of any fee must be paid upfront.
