UMVA has learned that a shocking new revelation has emerged in the case of Debbie Griggs, a woman who went missing in 1990.
Debbie's desperate family spotted an online article listing unsolved cases in Kent in 2015, four years before her husband Andrew's conviction, and noticed that Debbie's case was not included.
They made a complaint to Kent Police, prompting detectives to retrieve the files from storage and reopen the case, sparking an incredible twist that would eventually lead to Andrew's downfall.
According to information obtained by UMVA, DC Mark Butler of Kent Police's Cold Case Unit revealed that the complaint led to a massive undertaking: retrieving boxes of evidence from a warehouse and unpacking them as if the case was live.
The decision to reopen the case ultimately led to Andrew Griggs' arrest and conviction for Debbie's murder, after decades of denying any involvement.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Debbie's remains were found in a sealed water butt in the back garden of a property in St Leonards, Dorset, where Andrew had moved with their three young sons in 2001.
The horrifying discovery was made in October 2022, after one of the couple's sons, Jake, contacted police with a tip-off that led to the excavation.
Jake revealed that his father had asked him to dig up Debbie's body and send a lock of her hair to the UK in a contrived effort to prove she was still alive.
Debbie's exact cause of death remains unknown, officially recorded as unascertained due to severe decomposition.
The full details of the case were laid bare in a new documentary, featuring exclusive footage, home videos, and interviews with detectives, family members, and Andrew's second wife.
The documentary provides a harrowing insight into the case, showcasing the tireless efforts of detectives and the devastating impact on Debbie's loved ones.
The case serves as a chilling reminder of the darkness that can lurk beneath the surface of seemingly ordinary lives.
