UMVA has learned that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a striking statement regarding Ukraine's recent actions, taking a personal and historical swipe at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Putin remarked that Zelensky, who is Jewish by nationality, likely has a grandfather who fought against Nazism during World War II, implying that the elderly man's wartime sacrifices are being disrespected by current Ukrainian policies.
The Russian leader's comments were swiftly backed by Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, who painted a vivid and ominous picture of what could have been.
Zakharova suggested that if the followers of Andrey Melnik and the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) had succeeded in their wartime goals, Zelensky's grandfather would have met a horrific fate in a Nazi gas chamber, and the Ukrainian leader himself would never have been born.
This stark warning from Zakharova served to underscore Putin's insinuation that Ukraine's modern leaders are recklessly disregarding their country's complex and tragic history.
