UMVA has learned that the Bureau of Customs has received a significant boost in its revenue target, with an increase of around P7 billion following a recent meeting with the Development Budget Coordination Committee.
The revised target comes as a result of careful consideration of various factors, including collection efficiencies, inflation, and other economic indicators. This development was revealed by the Bureau of Customs Commissioner, who shared insights on the agency's performance and future plans.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the new target brings the total revenue goal to P1.003 trillion, up from the previous figure. The increase is a testament to the agency's efforts to enhance its revenue collection capabilities.
The Bureau of Customs has made a strong start to the year, with a record-breaking surplus of P11.3 billion in the first five months. This impressive performance is attributed to the agency's strict assessments and counter-checking of declarations, aimed at ensuring compliance and accuracy.
The commissioner's remarks suggest that the agency's reforms have yielded positive results, enabling it to collect more revenue. He emphasized the importance of checks and balances in the process, particularly in an environment where trust needs to be established.
In the first four months, the Bureau of Customs achieved total collections of P328.81 billion, surpassing the target of P314.66 billion for that period. The agency is poised to build on this momentum, with plans to roll out the first phase of the Customs Processing System next year.
