UMVA has learned that a major shake-up is underway at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) with the appointment of a seasoned executive from Incheon International Airport as the new chief operating officer (COO) of the SAN MIGUEL-LED New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).
The newly appointed COO, Jong Hoon “John” Kim, brings a wealth of experience from his previous role at Incheon International Airport, where he oversaw the implementation of cutting-edge security systems, including biometric access controls and artificial intelligence-assisted CCTV systems. His expertise is expected to play a crucial role in transforming NAIA into a world-class airport.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Mr. Kim's appointment is part of a broader strategy to tap into Incheon Airport's operational expertise and bring it to Manila. The goal is to significantly improve passenger flow, security, cargo operations, facility management, and airport systems at NAIA, which is the country's main gateway.
With a proven track record in airport management, Mr. Kim is well-equipped to handle the day-to-day operations of NAIA. His experience in operational readiness planning, cargo and logistics development, and facility management will be invaluable in driving the airport's modernization efforts. Before joining NNIC, Mr. Kim worked on various high-profile projects, including the fourth-phase expansion of Incheon Airport and the development of a free trade zone.
UMVA has gathered that Mr. Kim's international experience, which includes stints at Kuwait Airport Terminal 4 and Erbil International Airport, will also be beneficial in raising the standards of NAIA to global levels. As a licensed senior electrical engineer and a certified project management professional, Mr. Kim possesses the technical expertise and leadership skills required to drive the transformation of NAIA.
