A major player in the Philippine snack food industry, Republic Biscuit Corp. (Rebisco), is actively charting a course for significant expansion within the country’s economic zones. This strategic move signals a commitment to bolstering growth and streamlining operations for the beloved biscuit and confectionery brand.
Recent discussions between Rebisco executives and officials from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) revealed a shared vision for enhancing the value chain within these designated economic hubs. The April 17th meeting centered on aligning Rebisco’s ambitious plans with PEZA’s broader goals of fostering a more business-friendly environment.
Key objectives discussed included capitalizing on simplified business processes, minimizing operational expenses, and actively contributing to the development of ecozones. A crucial element of this collaboration also involves strengthening import substitution strategies – a push to produce more goods locally, reducing reliance on foreign imports.
PEZA presented a comprehensive overview of the attractive fiscal and non-fiscal incentives available to companies operating within ecozones, designed to encourage domestic investment. This briefing underscored the government’s dedication to cultivating a thriving local manufacturing sector.
The meeting also served as a platform to highlight recent investment laws aimed at improving the overall investment climate in the Philippines. These legal frameworks are intended to attract both domestic and foreign capital, fostering innovation and economic progress.
Leading the PEZA delegation was Director General Tereso O. Panga, while Rebisco was represented by Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jonathan C. Ng, alongside other key company leaders. The high-level participation demonstrates the seriousness of both parties in forging a productive partnership.
Rebisco, a household name renowned for its diverse range of biscuits, chips, candies, and other popular snacks, already possesses a significant international footprint. The company also operates a substantial manufacturing facility in Binh Duong province, Vietnam, showcasing its global ambitions.
