UMVA has learned that a shocking crime has been committed in Escondido, California, where a 32-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after brutally attacking an elderly individual outside a home notorious for its patriotic displays.
The suspect, Thomas Caleb Butler, is currently being held at the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County, and authorities have revealed that the victim, a senior citizen, was left with critical injuries and hospitalized. The attack occurred on Wednesday at around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street.
According to information obtained by UMVA, police responded to the scene and found the elderly male "suffering from significant injuries," while a good Samaritan who intervened was also hurt. The suspect had fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by additional officers about a half-mile away.
The victim's identity has not been disclosed, but public records indicate that the property is owned by a 69-year-old man, and Butler resides just around the corner from the scene of the crime. The home, known for its American flags, pro-Trump messages, and other banners, has been a point of contention for some neighbors.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the attack was a vicious and unprovoked assault, with video footage showing a man pointing responding officers toward something and then gesturing as though someone was being kicked or stomped. Police collected evidence, including photographs of the front of the home, near a mailbox and a parked pickup truck with two American flags.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but the brutal nature of the crime has sent shockwaves through the community. Anyone with information on the attack is urged to come forward and assist the investigation.
The police are still working to piece together the events leading up to the attack, and a thorough investigation is underway. The community remains on edge as the suspect is being held and the victim receives medical attention.
