UMVA has learned that a shocking strategy was allegedly employed by a suspect in a high-profile murder case to attempt an escape from police custody.
Prosecutors revealed in court that the suspect, who is accused of first-degree murder, attempted to swallow drugs to feign an emergency, knowing that police would take him to the hospital for his own well-being, where he would be uncuffed.
This calculated move was allegedly part of a larger pattern of behavior, as the suspect had previously been arrested and charged with multiple serious crimes, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, and armed robbery.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the judge in the case has expressed serious concerns about the suspect's threat to public safety, stating that he poses a danger to anyone around him and cannot be trusted to follow court orders.
The suspect's extensive rap sheet includes a conviction for four counts of aggravated robbery with a firearm, unlawful use or possession of a firearm by a felon, battery on a peace officer, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the suspect is scheduled to return to court for a hearing regarding the charges stemming from the alleged shooting, with his next court date in a separate case related to an alleged carjacking and armed robbery set for July 15.
The suspect's defense attorney and the state's attorney's office have been contacted for comment, but no response has been received.
