Former French football star Thierry Henry has praised Didier Deschamps for finding the right balance in his France squad, singling out midfielder Michael Olise as the team's most important player.
Henry, who won the World Cup with France in 1998, believes Olise's defensive contributions should not be overlooked, despite his impressive technical skills on the ball.
“What he does off the ball is second to none,” Henry said, highlighting Olise's exceptional vision and understanding of the game.
Olise's ability to read the game and intercept opposition passes has been a key factor in France's success, with Henry describing him as a “freak” who sees things that others cannot.
Henry also praised Deschamps for playing Olise in a central role behind Kylian Mbappe, where he can use his defensive skills to support the team's attack.
A great team effort, Henry said, with the players working together to achieve a balance between offense and defense.
He noted that the team's ability to recover the ball quickly and launch counter-attacks has been a key factor in their success, with Olise being a key player in this regard.
Henry also expressed his preference for playing Olise as a No.10 and Dembele on the right, which he believes creates a more balanced team.
