HERO'S FAREWELL: Witness Sgt. Malcolm's Final Journey Thursday!

A wave of grief is sweeping through Ontario as preparations are made to honor Sergeant Brandon Malcolm, a dedicated officer of the Ontario Provincial Police, tragically lost in the line of duty.

The 33-year-old sergeant died Monday after a motorcycle crash on Highway 401 near Cobourg, leaving a void in the hearts of his colleagues, friends, and family.

On Thursday afternoon, a solemn procession will begin, a final journey to accompany Sergeant Malcolm’s body. It will depart from the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto around 1 p.m., heading east along Highway 401 towards Oshawa.

Authorities are requesting that only officially designated vehicles and personnel participate directly in the procession to ensure safety and maintain the flow of this respectful tribute.

However, the OPP extends an invitation to the public to show their respect by gathering on overpasses along Highway 401 between Keele Street and Thickson Road South, standing as silent witnesses to the passing cortege.

To prevent disruption and ensure public safety, authorities are strongly advising against obstructing traffic, stopping on the highway, or exiting vehicles. The focus remains on a safe and dignified farewell.

Sergeant Malcolm’s life was one of service, beginning with his time as a combat engineer in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he demonstrated courage and dedication.

He continued his commitment to public safety as an auxiliary member with the Toronto Police Service before joining the OPP in June 2020, assigned to the Northumberland Detachment as a provincial constable.

Within the OPP, Sergeant Malcolm quickly distinguished himself, becoming a valued member of the prestigious Golden Helmets, the force’s renowned precision motorcycle team.

His skill and precision on the motorcycle were a testament to his dedication and discipline, representing the OPP with pride at official functions and public events.

As the community mourns, a book of condolences has been opened, offering a space for those who knew and admired Sergeant Malcolm to share their memories and express their sympathy to his loved ones.

Funeral arrangements are currently underway, and further details will be released by the OPP as they become available, allowing the public to participate in a final farewell to a fallen hero.
