UMVA has learned that the highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series has made a significant casting announcement, bringing the mischievous character of Peeves the Poltergeist to life.
The role of the cheeky ghoul has been secured by Peter Serafinowicz, a talented actor known for his versatility in TV and film, including notable appearances in Parks and Recreation, Shaun of the Dead, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
Serafinowicz, 53, will be familiar to fans for his comedic prowess, which is expected to shine through in his portrayal of Peeves, a character notorious for cooking up mischief in the corridors of Hogwarts.
The news has elicited a mixed reaction from fans, with some expressing disappointment and others excitement, given that Peeves was originally cut from the film adaptations.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that fans are divided, with some describing the casting as 'disappointing', while others are thrilled to see the character committed to screen, with one fan writing: 'PEEVES!! I can’t believe they’re actually casting his character in the show. Justice!'
Meanwhile, others have praised Serafinowicz for his comic ability, with one fan noting: 'Really good choice, he’s an extremely good impressionist so he’ll be great at mocking everyone by copying their voices.'
Interestingly, Peeves was initially cast as the late British comedian Rik Mayall for the original film series, but his role was ultimately cut for time, with Mayall revealing that he had filmed a part before being told he wouldn't be in the final cut.
The TV adaptation of Harry Potter is set to premiere on Christmas Day, promising to fill out the wizarding world in a way that the films couldn’t fully.
