MILITARY SECRETS EXPOSED: 25-Year-Old Assault Case EXPLODES!

Nearly three decades after the alleged incident, two members of the Canadian Armed Forces are now facing criminal charges related to sexual assault. The accusations stem from events said to have occurred in 1997, bringing a long-dormant case back into the light.

Chief Warrant Officer Stephane Marleau and Master Warrant Officer Gareth Webb, both currently serving with the Governor General’s Foot Guards (GGFG) in Ottawa as Primary Reserve members, each face a single count of sexual assault under the Canadian Criminal Code. The charges were confirmed by the Office of the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal on Wednesday.

The investigation, initiated last year by the Canadian Forces Military Police, proceeded with full cooperation from the Canadian Army. Details surrounding the original allegations remain limited, but the case underscores a renewed focus on addressing historical misconduct within the military.

Should the case move forward, the accused will be tried within the civilian criminal justice system, upholding the principle of due process. Both Marleau and Webb are presumed innocent until proven guilty, a cornerstone of legal proceedings.

The Governor General’s Foot Guards, a highly respected senior reserve infantry regiment, boasts a rich history of service both domestically and abroad. Based in downtown Ottawa, the regiment has participated in critical missions across the globe.

From deployments to Cyprus, Somalia, and Haiti under the banners of NATO and the UN, to Canada’s involvement in Afghanistan, the GGFG has consistently answered the call to duty. More recently, members have contributed to Op REASSURANCE in Latvia and Op UNIFIER in Ukraine.

Beyond international operations, the GGFG also plays a vital ceremonial role, serving as the sentries at Rideau Hall and participating in the iconic changing of the guard ceremonies on Parliament Hill. This dual function highlights the regiment’s commitment to both combat readiness and public service.

The Military Police continue to oversee the ongoing investigation, ensuring a thorough and impartial examination of the facts. This case represents a significant moment for the Canadian Armed Forces, as it navigates the complexities of accountability and justice.
