Mitch McConnell found unconscious at home, hospitalized on possible heart attack, 911 audio released

Senator Mitch McConnell, 84, was found unconscious at his Washington, D.C., residence in mid‑June and was immediately transported to a local hospital. Emergency personnel responded after a 911 call was placed at 8:36 a.m. on June 14.

Hospital officials confirmed he is receiving intensive medical care, though the specific cause of his admission has not been disclosed. Physicians have not released a definitive diagnosis.

A newly released 911 dispatch recording shows responders were summoned for an Advanced Life Support response after the senator was found unresponsive. The audio has led some observers to suggest a cardiac event may be involved, but no official confirmation has been made.

McConnell’s office announced that he will not participate in any Senate votes this week while he continues to recover. The statement emphasized his ongoing communication with staff on legislative matters.

The senator remains in regular contact with his team and is monitoring issues affecting Kentucky and the Senate. He has expressed a desire to resume full duties as soon as his health permits.

This hospitalization follows a prior admission earlier in the year for flu‑like symptoms, during which he was evaluated and released with a positive outlook. At that time, his spokesperson noted an abundance of caution guided the decision to seek care.

Health challenges have been recurrent; in October of the previous year he suffered a serious fall in the Russell basement. He has also experienced episodes of severe cold intolerance, commonly referred to as freezing episodes.

Despite the setbacks, his representatives expressed confidence in the quality of care he is receiving. They anticipate his eventual return to full Senate responsibilities.
