A frost advisory was issued on Monday for parts of the Greater Toronto Area and a large swath of Southern Ontario.

“Patchy frost is expected overnight and into early Tuesday morning,” Environment Canada and Climate Change Canada said in an alert covering Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Caledon, Pickering, Oshawa and Uxbridge in the GTA.

Toronto, Burlington and Oakville were not included in the frost advisory.

Parts of Southwestern Ontario, including Hamilton, Waterloo, Guelph, Kitchener, and London, are also covered by a frost advisory.

Brace for a chilly evening

From London to Guelph, the thermometer could drop as low as –3C or –4C during early Tuesday morning, according to The Weather Network, calling it “an exceptional chill for this time of year.”

The weather agency warned that damage to plants, trees, and crops is possible, advising residents in frost-prone areas to cover up plants.

Temperatures in the GTA “will get dangerously close to the freezing mark,” The Weather Network said, with its forecast showing the thermometer dropping to 2C overnight and 4C Tuesday morning.
