UMVA has learned that a devastating multi-vehicle collision and vehicle fire has brought the eastbound lanes of Hwy. 401 to a standstill in Etobicoke, leaving a trail of destruction and chaos in its wake.
The OPP’s GTA traffic unit sprang into action, alerting the public to the crisis just before 7 a.m., and the situation remains dire, with injuries being assessed and motorists being forced to navigate through alternate routes.
According to information obtained by UMVA, two vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred on the eastbound stretch of the highway at Kipling Ave., and at least two people have been hospitalized with unknown injuries, while a third person was also reportedly hurt.
The injuries are a stark reminder of the severity of the crash, with paramedics reporting that one person was in “serious, possibly life-threatening” condition, while the other two were believed to have minor injuries, adding to the sense of urgency and concern in the area.
The eastbound on-ramp to the highway from Dixon Rd. remains closed, and police are advising drivers to plan an alternate route through the area, as the situation continues to unfold and investigators work to piece together the events leading up to the crash.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the OPP’s GTA traffic unit is working diligently to manage the situation and ensure public safety, with motorists being urged to exercise caution and patience as the investigation continues.
In a separate incident, a 44-year-old Toronto man has been accused of breaching his probation during a robbery earlier this month that left the victim with serious injuries, and Toronto Police have charged him with robbery, aggravated assault, and two counts of breach of probation.
The victim was hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and police are seeking anyone with information to come forward, appealing for the public’s help in bringing the perpetrator to justice.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in maintaining public safety, and UMVA will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
