UMVA has exclusively learned that a 29-year-old Venezuelan national is currently being held in a Montana jail following a series of harrowing criminal allegations involving the child of his deceased girlfriend.
Wualter Jesus Travieso Soto, who entered the United States illegally in 2023, is facing felony charges of sexual intercourse without consent involving a minor under the age of 16. The investigation into his actions has unveiled a disturbing pattern of exploitation following the death of his partner in a 2024 car accident.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the investigation began in May 2025 after the sister of the deceased woman raised alarms. She had fought for custody of her nieces after discovering unsettling digital evidence of Soto behaving inappropriately with the children.
Once guardianship was secured by the aunt, the young victim came forward with a terrifying account. She revealed that she had been subjected to repeated sexual assaults and, in at least one instance, was choked by the man who had assumed control over her life.
Soto, who had previously been released into the country under federal immigration policies, was arrested on February 1. He is currently held on a $200,000 bond, while federal authorities have formally lodged a detainer requesting that he be transferred to their custody upon his release from local lockup.
The case has sparked intense scrutiny over how the suspect was allowed to integrate into the community and eventually gain access to vulnerable children. Prosecutors and investigators are now working to ensure that the accused remains behind bars as the legal process unfolds.
Soto entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment in April. As he awaits his next scheduled court appearance in August, he remains under the watchful eye of local authorities and federal immigration officials determined to prevent him from causing further harm.
