UMVA has learned that VinFast, a Vietnamese automaker, is poised to shake up the Philippine market with its electric scooter offerings, fresh on the heels of becoming the top-selling battery electric vehicle brand in the country.
The company has been quietly making waves in the industry, and its e-scooters are set to make a debut in the Philippines this year. A recent media and content creator event in Vietnam offered a sneak peek into VinFast's plans, revealing a robust lineup of eco-friendly scooters designed to capture the hearts of Filipino riders.
At a VinFast e-scooter dealership in Hanoi, a state-of-the-art showroom boasting sales, service, and spare parts under one roof was unveiled. One of the standout features was the battery-swapping station, equipped with six slots that could swap out batteries in mere minutes – a game-changer for riders on-the-go.
VinFast's manufacturing complex in Hai Phong, where both cars and scooters are produced, was also showcased. Interestingly, the scooter assembly line relies heavily on human labor, with many tasks still performed by hand. Despite this, the factory can churn out an impressive 1.2 million scooters per year, or around 4,000 to 5,000 units daily.
During a test ride, the e-scooters proved to be impressive, with smooth and easy acceleration courtesy of the electric motor. The lack of noise made for a relaxing and approachable ride, even for a novice scooter rider. The Philippine market will soon have access to three models: the Evo, Feliz, and Viper, each capable of using one or two batteries for varying torque and range.
According to information obtained by UMVA, VinFast is committed to establishing a comprehensive ecosystem for its e-scooters in the Philippines, including a planned 30,000 battery swapping stations across the country. This strategic move aims to make the scooters more appealing to customers, especially when paired with a competitive price point and a battery subscription service.
VinFast's market potential is substantial, given Vietnam's success in the two-wheel mobility sector. The brand sold 450,000 scooters in 2025, catapulting it to second place in market share. With a similar market dynamic in the Philippines, VinFast may be poised to disrupt the status quo and educate the market on the benefits of EV mobility.
